派（pie）是西方饮食中很重要的元素，于是，老外的话题常常离不开pie，英语里也就有了很多跟pie有关的短语。
这些短语，往往并不是我们看到的字面上的意思。比如pie in the sky，它并不是“天上掉馅饼”的意思哦。
Pie in the sky 表示你希望会发生但很难实现的事情。因此，这个短语用来表示“不切实际的目标”、“不太可能实现的东西”、“不现实的计划、承诺或者空想”。
例句：
Their plans to set up their own business are justpie in the sky.
他们的创业计划只是空中楼阁。
I wanted to be a major league baseball player, but I knew it was probablypie in the sky.
我想成为大联盟的棒球运动员，但我知道这可能是空想。
pie in the sky 这个有趣的表达其实已经有超过100年的历史了，最早是一位作曲家首创的这个说法。
在1911年，有一位瑞典移居美国的作曲家乔·希尔，他热衷工人运动，创作了一首歌曲The Preacher and the Slave （传教士和奴隶），批评神学专注于灵魂的救赎而非让人填饱肚子，pie in the sky 就是这首歌歌词中的一句。
这个短语直到二战时期才真正流传开来，用来比喻任何不可能实现的未来幸福前景。
1939年，加利福尼亚《弗雷斯诺蜜蜂报》的一篇文章中提到当时的商界担心罗斯福对战争问题的痴迷会限制贸易和利润的问题，用到了如下的表达方式：
They are highly skeptical of Washington's promise that they will 'eat pie in the sky' solely from war orders, which they decry publicly.
他们对华盛顿关于仅靠战争订单就能 “吃到天上的馅饼 ”的承诺深表怀疑，并公开对此表示谴责。
还有其他几个跟 pie 有关的短语，也是简单又好记，我们一起来看一下吧。

For Judy, getting a pilot’s licensewas easy as pie– she seemed to have a natural talent for it.

as nice as pie
讨人喜欢，用来形容人非常友善可亲，（尤其是意想不到的情况下）。
I thought she'd be really scary but she wasas nice as pie.
我以为她会很可怕，但她人很好。
Mr. Stewart may seem crotchety, but actually he'sas nice as pie—he's helped me carry my groceries many times.

Everyone waspie-eyedas the celebrity strolled into our store.

还有比这更讨人嫌的，比起“在某件事中搀和了一把”还有一个短语have a finger in every pie，表示“好管闲事, 事事参与”。
以及也有类似的表达，to have a finger in many pies样样事都要插一手。
Monica wouldn't be so busy and stressed if she didn'thave a finger in every pie.
如果莫妮卡不是好管闲事，她就不会如此忙碌和紧张。
